Lots of people tend to go to bed with wet hair. However, this is a huge mistake. In fact, sleeping with wet hair can be the cause of many diseases. And it’s not about a simple cold or pneumonia, but triggering other health issues.

When a person goes to bed with damp or wet hair, the moisture is retained and can lead to inflammation of the scalp, which usually causes a seriously annoying itching sensation. It can also have a negative impact on the mane. Moreover, keeping the towel around your head for a longer period can have the same effect of retaining moisture.

1. Infections

It is a wide known fact that wet, dark places are perfect breeding places for bacteria. Sleeping with wet hair will wet the pillow and mattress, making them the perfect places for bacteria.

As we shared this above, sleeping with damp hair means that the water is kept on your scalp throughout the night. But, what’s important here is that during sleep our body’s temperature rises. Therefore, the big temperature difference might cause severe headaches.

3. Tearing Hair

Damp hair tends to tear easily, meaning going to bed like that is only going to intensify the problem.

4. Muscle Pain

Because of the temperature change, going to bed with wet hair may cause muscle pain, severe cramps, and facial paralysis. Rarely, but it does happen.

5. Itchy Scalp

Sleeping with wet hair is one of the most common causes of an itchy scalp.

6. Dandruff

If your scalp is moist for a longer period of time, it will interfere with the function of the sebaceous glands on the scalp. These glands will eventually start to produce more oil, or they’ll go in the opposite direction (decrease oil production). This may disrupt the natural pH balance of the scalp and ultimately result in dandruff or excessively oily scalp.

7. Tangled Hair

Going to bed for the night with damp hair can also result in sticky hair, which makes the hair difficult to be entangled. This is especially a problem for people with long hair.
